I have been honing my teaching skills through various subjects including cycling, alpine and nordic skiing and sailboarding for many years. I now enjoy sharing furniture making skills through teaching. I am committed to passing these skills on to future generations so that they can enjoy fine craftsmanship. There are no secrets here, just information to share and skills to learn. Classes are taught in same studio that I use to create my furniture. It is located in Traverse City, a beautiful small town in Northern Michigan that is surrounded by Lake Michigan, many small inland lakes, wineries and beautiful countryside that is perfect for outdoor activities. The studio is small yet very well equipped and makes for a nice intimate learning environment. There are a maximum of six students per class to allow for easy learning and more direct contact with the teacher. Hand Tools and Techniques November 7th & 8th, 2009 8:30am – 5:00pm Class Fee $225.00 This class will focus on learning to use and maintain hand tools for making furniture. During class you will learn to properly select and prepare wood, layout jointery, cut and chop dovetails and make mortises & tenons. You will learn to use layout tools, planes, saws and chisels and more. This is an exciting and informative workshop designed for anyone that would like to learn these hand tool skills for furniture making. Holiday Gift Making November 21st & 22nd, 2009 8:30am – 5:00pm Class Fee $125.00/day or $225.00 for both days With the holidays rapidly approaching wouldn’t it be fun and satisfying to give someone special presents handmade by you? This class will teach you to make candlesticks, boxes, picture frames, bookends and pepper mills. You will leave this class with a finished gift each day and the knowledge to make more. This is a fun workshop designed for anyone interested in learning to make wooden gifts for the holidays and beyond. Dovetailed Box Making (Demystifying the Dovetail) December 5th & 6th, 2009 8:30am – 5:00pm Class Fee $225.00 This class will have you hand cutting and chopping dovetails in no time! Both through dovetails and half blind dovetails will be taught, along with the understanding of other dovetail variations. You will leave this class with a finely crafted, hand dovetailed box and the knowledge to make any size dovetailed box and drawer. Basic hand tool skills including layout tools, hand planes, saws and chisels are recommended but not required. Wooden Plane Making (Krenov Style) January 16th & 17th, 2010 8:30am – 5:00pm Class Fee $225.00 Materials Fee $70.00 In this class you will make a wooden Krenov style hand plane. You will also learn to properly sharpen plane irons, tune your plane for efficient planing, flatten and joint boards, and leave the class with the knowledge to make and use other useful hand planes. This class is open to all wood lovers that are interested in making that super fine shaving sing out of a comfortable and stylish new plane!
